If zoning isn't complicated enough, the Town is proposing 3 major zoning proposals at once, which would allows thousands of additional condos in South Acton.
Here are links to the Town's proposed changes:
1. PowderMill-Assabet River zoning proposal
2. South Acton Village zoning proposal
3. MBTA zoning proposal
We believe the proposals are well intended. We have heard Town officials say that the proposed zoning would "enliven" South Acton by by allowing developers to build more "market rate" [not affordable] condos. They appear to believe that this will result in:
- more "shops" like ice cream shops, small restaurants and yoga studios
- more inclusive housing choices,
- more historic buidlings being saved
Sounds good, right?
So why did we submit a petition for a Special Town Meeting to urge elected officials to peform "Impact Studies" to analyze whether these things are likely to be true, or if there would actually be very negative impacts?
